Post pictures but if it is not a very formal DR, then make it informal and connect kitchen to eating area and expand the footprint out, maybe some cabs in DR eat in area , done as a buffet type table, just off floor at counter height for add'l storage will help. This is often done.Post pics please

Thanks for your thoughtful response... I actually am planning to expand into the (informal) dining room and have a wall of built-in cabinets with additional counterspace... I will try and take some pics soon and post them. thx
