Help: Sweet Pea on Balcony needs some support?

This is the first time I have ever sowed and grown Sweet Peas. I understand now after posting on this site that the Sweet Pea will need good support for better growth and ultimatly flowering. Anyway, the growth I have has already started to get tangled up. What do I need to do to get them climbing up strings or one of those bamboo hoops? Can I pull apart the vines that have grown together or will that hurt the plant? Also is it one string per vine or can you let several vines climb on one "line"? Please post/respond with any thoughts. I still haven't decided what I am going to use for support since I have them growing in a pot on my brick balcony. I may use string and attach it to hooks on the wood part ceiling.
