I have a trident and hornbeam leafing in my basement under flourescents since March 1st. My wife and family keep door open to my 40 degree garage and i'm leaving in zone 5 . It has been very cold here.Thought I would start them early. My bonsai teacher says it is ok for one time, but next year leave in 40 degree setting untill season is right.Different trees require different amounts of dormant hours-up to 10000.

So I have my trees in a 60F cellar under 2 flourescent lights. bulbs, about 2 feet away. They will need to stay there for 4 weeks until it warm up enough outside. Is there anything else I should do? I have read in the past that keeping outdoor trees inside for more than a few days is harmful. Do they need extra ventilation, a fan, misting, etc? 2 Umes, 2 Black Pine, 2 Tridents.

Seems like the lights are a bit far away from the trees. Its preferred that the lighting be inches from the trees. The useable lumens decrease exponentially with distance I believe. They'll need more light, and closer light = more light, so they'll need closer light.
