Cosmos seed planting

I never seem pick the right time each year to sow my yellow cosmos seeds outside. The area I seed tends to have many sprout from last year's plants that went to seed.

Is it better to broadcast the seeds well before the last frost and just let them decide when to sprout or should I wait until the last frost is over? Thanks.

if you have sprouts from last years plants .. which self seeded ..... doesnt that suggest that the seed is cold resistant??? .. and that the plants will come up when they are ready??? .. if so.. frost freeze is not an issue .... AS TO THE SEED ...

whole other ball of wax.. if you started them indoors.. and you were taking tender annuals outdoors....

out of curiosity .... whats wrong with the 'volunteers'???

Nothing is wrong with the volunteers. I encourage them. What I want to do is sprinkle more seeds down in the spring. Should I just do it whenever given that the regular seeds overwinter in the ground or should I wait until after frost to sow them directly?
