You need to check locally -- with a reputable nursery or your county extension office -- to find out when your last average frost date is. You've got to be getting close. Here in Nebraska, it's May 10; I know I'll push that a little by planting some things in the next week or so. Happy gardening!

People are always in such a hurry to put the plants in the ground! Anyone living on Long Island knows how wet and cold it has been this Spring. Last year I bought a beautiful tomato plant and planted it only to see it die from the cold. I would agree that Mother's Day is usually safe, but some plants are more tender than others, so keep that in mind and make sure your have them outside for a few days before putting anything in a very open spot.
