I have tried planting bulbs in pots with soil and they grew great. I left them in the pots and they froze for the winter. Will they come up this year or do I have to bring them inside so they do not freeze? I have butterfly glads and bought a purple dahlia bulb for this summer. I have frozen glad bulbs (from last year) on the staircase up to the apartment. I hope they come back from last year!!
Does anyone know? TIA.

If they are summer blooming bulbs and froze over the winter, it is unlikely they will come back. Many of those are not winter hardy below zone 8 and higher. Spring blooming bulbs are another matter - they tend to be very hardy and can take extreme cold but freezing in a container can even prove fatal to them. It depends on how cold/how frozen the actual bulb or tuber gets.

It was about 30 below, maybe a bit colder. All I can do is wait and pray they will come back. I learned a lesson. Thank goodness I have 3 more boxes of Butterfly glad bulbs and 1 purple dahlia bulb.. They will come in this fall.
