Cosmos have been quite reliable for me, and they couldn't be easier - and deer seem to leave them alone.

Nothing is ever absolutely fool proof if the natural food for deer is in short supply, though.

I've never had a problem with deer eating my cosmos, but woodchucks sure love them!

I seriously doubt there were ever any studies on this matter but nevertheless I believe that it's not. Despite even that shooting a deer up to space is completely possible in my opinion, I believe that we all are cosmos and in fact deer are too.

Chuckle. You are probably right. I doubt that there have been any studies on deer eating the entire cosmos, black holes and all. But, just to be on the "safe" side, maybe we should not "shoot any deer up into space".

They ruined the smaller cosmos bipinnatus, but left the taller orange Sulphur cosmos mostly alone for me.

Each year I sowed several varieties of cosmos. None were bothered by deer or rabbits.

Maybe it because my deer herds are just non-picky—-they treat my zinnia the same way, despite weekly spray of deer resistant liquid. I am not going to spend more money on deer repellents any more: I surrender and will only plant solid deer proof flower: spring columbine, summer marigold and begonia...

This year the deer ate my cosmos down to the ground and left the zinnias alone! But I live in an area where the deer are extremely voracious

so far so good. Maybe because they filled up on the stonecrop sedum...

Deer do eat both Cosmos and Zinnias, but are only interested in the buds.

Well, deer have topped off my zinnias, cosmos and also crocosmias. They had been doing well.

I had such a beautiful long planter filled with Cosmos. They were doing so well and was eagerly anticipating their blooming. I checked them every day for slugs, found and removed one slug. This morning looked out my window and saw how great the Cosmos were coming along. Went outside this afternoon and the Cosmos had been eaten way down to bare stems, some even pulled out by the roots. I am so sad.

That must have been some Slug. Sorry. Not funny. But do you know for sure the culprit was a Deer?

Yes, definitely a deer. I forgot to mention that I saw the culprit in my yard as he or she was chomping on my Liriope. I should have shooed away, ugh.
