Nasturtium Breeding

I breed nasturtiums as well as zinnias! Anyone who has any expertise on this is free to join. My breeding goal is yellow to white flowers with fragrance and a dark throat. I already have 2 yellow nasturtiums, one with an excellent habit and throat color, and some that did not bloom. This comprises 1/3 of all my nasturtiums- the rest were culls (Any combination of red color,vine habit,or no throat color)

how do you replicate success.. should you find something stunning... arent they annuals???

or is it just for the fun of a one year thrill ...

Hi Ken,

Save seeds from them. And/or use their pollen to cross pollinate with other "successful" specimens. It's not just a one year thrill for me with zinnias. Which also are annuals.

but they dont come true from seed ... do they??

so any given 'success' .. is ephemeral at best ...

Ken,

Where do you think all those hundred or more different varieties of zinnias that are commercially available come from?

Their "successes" with new varieties are not ephemeral or "non-duplicatable", so why should it be so for us?

If what you are saying about annuals were true, there wouldn't be any packets of annual flower seeds for sale.
