My sunflowers never show any phototaxis, all the blooms are randomly facing but they never move... the blooms which i can see facing my room window will remain in the same position throughout the day and night... is that a problem ??

Sunflowers may be phototropic (phototrophic), but not all of them are. A naturally occurring growth hormone (indole-3-acetic acid, an auxin) causes this effect in sunflowers. The chemical is actually sunlight-shy. It moves to the shadier side of the sunflower (and other plants') stem during the day and causes growth there. Thus, it APPEARS that the head of the plant is moving towards the sun, but in truth it is only a physical phenomenon caused by the growth on the shady part of the stem and not the sunny side.

Not all sunflower species exhibit phototropism. Those that do may only do so during a part of their lives.
