Yes and yes.I have them also and they have come back for me for several years now and come up in places where i never had them,thanks to the birds and mother nature.I have several different colors of lobelia,from white to the one you have.

Zone 6 in NY is a whole lot different from zone 9 S.CA. I've only had them reseed in pots of plants I bring indoors for the winter. They don't reseed in frozen winters, at least not in zone 5. I save the seeds (hard to find on the plants) and plant them the following spring.

Hmmmm.... so there's a chance, then. Our winters here aren't always that cold. Plus there is a lot of mulch in the area around them and the leaves from the fall don't get cleaned until Spring. Maybe with all that protection, they'll be fine. I mean, as bad as our winter was last year -- and it was bad -- the mint in that same area didn't even freeze to the point of losing all its leaves.
