Thank you socalgal! You got it! That explains why it blooms in the Fall, like amaryllis.

Also, I thought those buds looked familiar - they look like miniature versions of the Naked Lady buds.

So, another South Africa bulb succeeds in my garden. I found the record I made when I bought them - they were called "Japanese spider lilies", and of course they are neither from Japan, nor lilies. Mystery solved, thanks again!

Do you think that these bulbs are Nerine bowdenii too? I was gifted these bulbs and am trying to identify what they are so I plant them corectly. Would appreciate any help. Thanks

No idea if those are nerine, but they definitely look like something in the amaryllis family. You don't need to know exactly who they are to plant them correctly. In your climate, they should do fine. Now is the perfect time to plant them. Just plant them in full sun, with just the very tops of the bulbs (and of course all of the green leaves) above the dirt. They will grow more leaves over the winter, and then either the leaves will die down, or not, and the flower stocks will come up in the late summer or Fall. When they bloom, post a pic on here and we can figure out exactly who/what they are.
