Morning Glory vine

I planted a seedling early this summer and it completely took over my front porch. I've heard about training Morning Glory or other vines up a tree, however, I'm wondering if this could be harmful to a young tree? Has anyone done this with Morning Glories?

Should't be a problem in zone 4. By the time the vines are big, the tree has pretty well done its work for the year. Further south, however, morning glories can be and are a major problem. And our wild bindweed, which is a perennial, can cause difficulties up here.
