Potato scab

Hi all

I'm about 4 months from being able to plant anything but I would like to start planning this years garden. Some friends have an acreage and I've been planting potatos in their garden area - I have also grown a few beets and carrots among my potatos. Usually I grow between 25-40 hills of potatos. The first year they were awesome but the past 2 years the yield hasn't been as good and they have some sort of scab on them - they still taste great but are less visually pleasing than in the past. What could be causing the scab? Is there anything simple that I can do - maybe like planting something with the potatos to help them from getting scabs? Thanks for any advice

Fern
