I usually pull all my annuals out by the roots. My one exception is the Victoria Blue Salvia, which I have discovered will often overwinter and come back from the roots the next spring.

Victoria is a perennial, and behave that way in many parts of the country. In very cold climates, it's treated as an annual. We have some Victoria that has remained in situ for over 4 years.

But your Profusion is an annual and can be removed whenever you have the time. I usually wait until the frost takes it out, because the bees, butterflies, and other pollinators seem to flock to anything blooming at this time of year.

Annuals can be ripped out....herbaceous perennials should be cut back, leaving the roots in place.

Victoria is routinely sold as an annual here, so I was very surprised to see it return one year after I couldn't pull it out and I was too lazy to dig it out. Now that I know it is likely to survive the winter, I cut it back as I would a perennial.
