Nicotiana still small after spring sowing

I sowed a tall white Nicotiana last May and after about 6 weeks a few finally germinated. I now have four plants, each with 5 or 6 leaves. The largest leaves are about 5 inches. I just transplanted them from jumbo cell paks to 3" pots. I am hoping they will grow and bloom next summer. Might I have a better chance if I keep them in a bathroom by a West facing window, or under an overhang by a sliding door outside for the winter? Is it hopeless in any case? Thanks! Wobur

After a month with no comment I will give you my opinion. Outside with some protection is better than inside by a window. If you checked both locations with a light meter you would find ten times more light outside. Nicotiana winters over outside here and they might for you after they are established. For this winter find an outside location with some protection, a cold frame would be ideal. Al

It kind of amazes me that a seed SO SMALL and a seedling that emerges SO TINY can by mid summer be four feet tall with big leaves and loads of blooms. So dramatic, the difference. It seems like it is never going to happen then suddenly there it is.
