are you trying to save whole plants???

most mums root rather easily .... have you tried that???

describe what you do ...

are they all in a greenhouse .... or is there also failure in the regular house???

Thank you, Ken, for answering my post. I was not sure if this was the correct forum to pose my question. Yes, I did try to save the whole plant last year by wintering in my small greenhouse that is attached to the house and was only heated with heat lamps and surrounded with insulation frame. Several things made it, but they didn't. No, I have not tried to root a cutting. My son has built a new planting bench in my garage, which is heated and he has installed flourescent hanging lights. It seems that the lighter colors of the mums are the hardest to keep alive. We have great swings in temperatures here, but he has put plastic around the whole thing to protect them when we have to have the garage door open for a short period of time. I'll try the cutting trick. Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks again - Barb

I overwintered some potted "football" mums one year by keeping them in a semi-dormant state. I placed them and my cacti in a cool east-facing window where they only got watered once a week. The mums looked unhappy most of that time, but--once I started watering them more frequently in the spring--they came back and bloomed fine.
