Soil mix

This is my first year gardening and I chose to do containers. I was lead to MG Moisture Control which overall I am not pleased with. I have been reading posts about the 5:1:1 gritty mix and I also skimmed over a post about fig trees using a 1:1:1 mix that AL uses. Would this 1:1:1 mix work for my vegetables as well? Which is easier to get the materials for and which actually works the best? I am growing tomato, squash, and peppers at the moment. All of them are in 5g buckets except 1 tomato is in a 10g. Also would it be beneficial to move my plants out of the MG mix and into one of these or just wait until next season? The squash are still kind of small but the tomato plants are over a foot tall. Thanks everyone.
