Though I know that corn can be grown in a container, it doesn't seem practical to me considering that each plant (which should not be pruned) will typically develop only one ear, two tops!

UrbanGardener, Your joy in gardening is palpable and infectious!

I'm am only a newbie to container gardening, but have been growing veggies, in the ground, for years.

You should check out Square-Foot gardening for great ideas on growing fantastic crops in a small space.

Hi barefootinct

It is such a joy and I am so happy to be gardening along with all the folks from GardenWeb :)

This also a great plan to start this Urban Garden of mine after most of the plants did not survive after moving house. The only survivor are my 2 pots of 3 year old rosemary and lavender.

Well, anyway I would keep that in mind, pruning corn to get more ears, Thank You rhizo.

Regards,
Urban Gardener

Urban Gardener - If you prune the corn, it won't "bloom" to get the ears. A typical type usually yields 1 - 2 ears normally, which is why here, there are acres and acres and acres of it to get enough for sale.

One of my sisters is trying corn this year - the first time in many years since we were kids when we had about 4 plants and did get at least 4 - 5 ears! LOL She is only doing 6 plants that will go in a small raised bed. But she will hopefully be grouping them to help maximize pollination.

There are a bunch of sites out there that describe growing corn. One for "backyard" growing is here. Also you may want to check out this thread for inspiration and do stop by that Square Foot Gardening Forum for more inspiration!
