I planted my seeds April 5, they were up by April 20. That's slow, because of the cold. But they're predicting a hot early summer, so if the cold season vegetables don't get started, there won't be time for them.

I'm not optimistic.

So all the stuff I just mentioned are supposed to be grown In cooler temps like from early April through late may...then plant again toward middle of July?

So if these don't pop till may 12th and it gets extremely hot fast, they won't grow at all? Or just do poorly?

Some may do poorly. Some will do OK. Just have to wait and see. Weathermen are wrong sometimes, too.

Be sure to write down your planting dates so you can refer to them next year. Eventually you will find the sweetest spots on the calendar for your favorite crops. With some it will end up being a very small window, and you will find that some things do better planted late than early. Much better than guessing based on short-term weather forecasts.

But then of course the weather changes year to year. I have planted cole crops in mid April - this year the snow keeps coming down, and the ground is still frozen. We just got another 2" last night ! I am hoping thats the last of it.

With your weather , everything you sowed should be just fine.

Re: the black plastic, is your concern that it will get too cold at night for the seeds to germinate? Be sure to check the temps under that plastic to see how hot it gets. Everything you planted actually prefers cool weather, so I don't know that you'll need to warm things up that much to get them going. Definitely make sure the plastic is off as soon as the seeds germinate - it sounds like an easy way to accidentally cook them. :)
