Diane, what kind of containers and soil did you use for the carrots? And did you use organic or regular fertilizers? I have some cherry tomato plants growing in big containers along with my indoor herbs, and growing carrots doesn't sound like a bad idea at all.

I used a mixture of miracle grow potting soil and miracle grow garden soil and mixed in a little composted manure.
I found some big window boxes that were 12 inches deep. Because the carrots were a small variety (finger length)
I was able to plant 3 rows. Every once a while I watered with a little miracle grow...that's it.

I don't have the package with me but the seeds were from Hart Seed Company, I got them at Agway. They were a finger length variety.

I've had a lot of success growing carrots in containers. I use small plastic storage bins, and 5 gal buckets, with drainage holes drilled. Mine are organically grown - lots of compost mixed in with the soil, plus a homemade organic fertilizer mix of cottonseed meal, lime, kelpmeal and rock powders.
