Wow they are expensive! Root pouches are dirt cheap (pun intended). I have about 60 plants, that would be well over a thousand bucks for the large sizes, that is crazy!
Are they gold lined? I don't see any advantage over fabric.
Yeah compost actually is very well draining and decomposes, so I see a lot of soil loss with these. I would line with landscape cloth, make a really super expensive fabric container.
I use root pouches and they cost less than 10 dollars a piece, even the 30 gallon ones. The 5 gallon ones are $2.50 each if you buy ten.

There's a guy who uses airpots without the bottoms and loves them. They have to go on soil so they become like mini raised beds. The fabric pots are great for moving around and smaller plants. I don't really see much advantage to the airpots, other than they cut down evaporation from the sides and provide more rigid structure. But if one is moving plants around, might as well go for something with handles.

I haven't used these pots, Jerry, but you might want to try a slightly adjusted bark-mix - a 5-2-1 perhaps? I know you're familiar with how these mixes work - and with you local microclimate - and I'm sure you could balance the advantages of the mix and the container with some fine tuning.

@JerryVentura Jordan I know it's been a while, but how did this go for you? I'm thinking of using the 511 mix in air pots next season and I'm concerned that they will not contain enough water. What was your experience?

DLEverette, I’m surprised I’m still connected to this, but here’s what I remember. I did have to modify the mix a bit because of the holes, plus I used some fiberglass screen on the bottom to keep the mix from falling out. Everything grew great, loved that mix, but my house burnt down and that was that. I just moved back in a couple months ago but I will need to rethink my garden plan because water is so expensive now and those pots with that mix uses a lot of water.
