Shannon is spot on, you could literally have your house falling down around your heads ...... or worse, on your heads. Unless you have a thorough understanding of the structural mechanics of calculating the loads, transfers, columns and connections to go along with the framing means and methods of taking out a load bearing wall........you need to leave this project to the professionals who do.

Before you do anything, anything at all, you should consult with a structural engineer to come into your house and review your current structure and your plans. They will provide you with your next steps in regards to what needs to be done. As the last comment stated, unless you understand structure and construction, it is best to let the professionals handle this. It will give you peace of mind and a safe house for years to come.
