Rabbits?

I thought about it, but I am in the heart of the city, and there are just no sweet thumpers running around.

I thought maybe birds, but when I told my four year old son that maybe a bird had taken the strawberry, he said
"Yeah, but birds don't dig!"

Surely there are raccoons and possums in all those big trees in parks. Rats. Mice. Spread flour to get some tracks.

Skunks eat fruits and dig for grubs, insects, and in my case, pillbugs.

And don't forget the squirrels...mine dig and have had a taste of pretty much everything in the garden, including strawberries, which they obviously didn't like because they left them half eaten on the ground.

coons, opossoms, cats, chipmunks, squirrels, rabbits.

We are on full alert now....
My downstairs neighbor that I garden with thought raccoons for sure with the digging she saw, but then the strawb through her off.
She sprinkled red pepper all over the perimeter of our garden, along with some bait. and she says she's gonna put out some traps, just in case.

I can't get over why I am so lame about it.
Am I really scared of rats?! And why not squirrels?
I am determined to not let them keep me from my garden.

Anyone else get the heebies from this - like me?

Yes......wild creatures have their fav foods and will eat them first before moving on to less desireable foods. In my garden, if it's beans getting chomped it's rabbits. They head to my beans and my young cabbage first. Deer will also mow off bean leaves. If it's my sweet potato foliage, you can take it to the bank it's a groundhog.

Tomato fruits.....can be anything from a mouse to geese. LOL.

Corn is deer or raccoons.

I live in the country....but believe me I have seen every one of those animals at my folks garden in the city.

We don't get much deer here in Brooklyn, unless it is going into the venison chili...
