Just thought to share my garden this season. Earlier in the spring I got quite a few snowpeas, sugarsnap peas and swiss chard. The swiss chard was earlier in the spring and it bolted. So the swiss chards are gone. One swiss chard plant had this weird browning of the leaves. I just harvested some carrots and quite a lot of lettuce(Bibb). The leaves of the lettuce seemed to wilt quickly after being cut. I have some Romain lettuce still growing which are ready to harvest (I think). Beans and cucumbers have taken off and tomatoes have set fruit. Okra (4 plants this time) just sprouted their true leaves and I hope they take off. Have 2 eggplants and bell peppers which are growing slow. The japanese eggplant had blossoms a few weeks ago which dropped due to some cooler weather. Thanks,

You could try carrying out a bowl or clean bucket of cool water & plunge the lettuce into it right after harvest to keep from wilting. Or put it directly in a cooler & close the lid to keep it out of sunlight while you're cutting other vegetables.

Cut outer leaves off the romaine lettuce at any time. Small leaves are just as tasty & you can always plant more seeds for more baby lettuces.

I've had chard do that when it touched the soil or we had wet weather. I just remove any leaves that don't look good & feed them to the chickens or compost if it's just a few leaves.

Thanks for the tips, Corrine. You are right. The ones that were lower had the brown areas on the leaves. That's a good idea to keep the lettuce from wilting.
