Really, you hate it?

I love pruning, it's one of my favorite gardening activities, actually. I find it satisfying and somewhat "spiritual" in the sense that its a quite, contemplative activity -- sort of a Zen thing, I guess.

Actually, with 60 degrees here today and major snowmelt, I was just thinking how nice it would be to have some time to get out there and start working on it for the season. Alas, too little daylight when I get home from work, and by the weekend, back to Siberia no doubt.

I like picking off a branch here and there to shape, not shortening everything by a foot or two on an already shaped tree.
I'm sure I'll get some water sprouting during the summer, I'll enjoy that since there won't be any spurs and it's almost like shaping. Plus I have some holes to fill in for future branch removal (dual leader from the former espalier design) so that will be training.

Training young trees is my meditative type of pruning.

I pruned the lowers on my cherries and that didn't bother me because the spurs don't look as obvious.
It's all those long established spurs gone that I hate.

Which reminds me, I need to prune the spurs on one of my espaliers.
