Also wondering if I should box in the front of tub and add tile there as well. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

do you have to keep the tub? If not your space looks like a perfect set-up for a walk-in shower.

@Kitchens and Baths, yes, I like my tub and soaking at least 2-3 times a week, but I do want a shower. I do like the walk-In showers, my friend has one at his place, but I am trying to do this without the expense of redoing the entire bathroom.

If you can take more pictures of the bathroom it would be helpful. Your bathroom looks very small.

Appreciate the help. Here is the floor plan and a couple of more pictures. I plan on also getting an estimate to maybe convert the closet into a steam/shower but it might be too expensive, area is 40" x 40".

Either way you are going to have to take walls down to studs and replace with waterproofing if you are adding shower. It does't appear that just going to bottom of window will be sufficient also. If you choose to tile I would go all the way to ceiling on all walls surrounding tub.

Slope and drainage are going to be an issue on the existing tub surround as well.

Rethink your plan. This is not the tub style or layout to add a shower.

I think that adding a hand held shower would be best ,we had a tub similar to yours in our previous home and that's what it had , if you are careful you don't need any enclosure if not then add a circular or oval curtain rod to the ceiling and hang a shower curtain . add more tiles to the walls if you are planning this at least half way to the window ., and get a squeegee it comes handy :)

I vote against the glass. I think it will rob you of that luxurious feel when you're getting to soak. I'd do an overhead shower with curtains that run all the way behind.

Everyone, thanks so much for your feedback. Actually there is green drywall surrounding the tub already, so I would not need to remove the existing.

In looking at all of your responses I think the way to go is to gut my closet and insert a shower. I know they will have to go down to the studs there, probably re-route the electricity and it won't be cheap, but I do like my soaking tub. I think I have seen some steam showers around the size I need. I will let you know what my final decision is.
