Gentians actually do seem to need that mythical well-drained constantly moist soil. Or some of them do anyway. I'm constantly frustrated that plant sellers label every species as needing exactly the same moist organic acid soil. Since I need the more alpine species that like drier alkaline mineral soils, I can never impulse buy and have to go home and research each purchase first.
