explain about th different lime,please

Lime for soil--Got some type. What does it say on the package?? Hydrated lime????

A guy called up local radio gardening show and said he mixed it in watering can --- a weak solution occasionally to help control. blossom end rot

so I will check what I have on hand--

I k ow I read the Faq on tomato etc.. Just want tp try it..

Oh, have some Holly-tone....Got from junk pickup....

Will this suffice for tomatoes? Is it natural????

I prefer organic stuff

Hydrated lime will burn your plants. It should only be used as a pre-planting amendment and only IF your soil pH is confirmed to be too low.

Concur: hydrated lime is Calcium hydroxide, fast acting. Yes it may burn your plants, but it will also blind you should you get any in your eyes. Not as strong as lye (sodium or potassium hydroxide) but in the same family. Handle with care. Most garden use "lime" is Calcium Carbonate ( ground limestone) which reacts with the acids in the soil but slowly.

many discussions on tomato forum about it
more so due to uneven moisture than ph of soil
calcium (lime) helps plant uptake moisture

The hydrated lime -
We've used it over 10 years ago to disinfect a chicken yard after chickens came down with a bacteria disease after a youth show. Followed precautions and we've not had a it since.
