You didn't do anything wrong. Blueberries are naturally quite alternate-bearing. So, in the future, be sure to put a lot in the freezer during the "on" years. Just the way it goes.

Thanks for the reply. So there's no rhyme or reason as to what makes a good year and what makes a lean year? I mean, last year was a *great* year and this year looks to be a dismal one.

On a side note, it seems that most of the flowers form at the end of the blueberry branches, but especially on my Oneal, the tips of most of the branches look dry and dead. Not necessarily diseased, but ending in dead wood, where I would think the bulk of the blueberries would form. :/

The tips of your branches shouldn't look dry and dead. That sounds like the plants got too dry at one time or another. My bb have always set too many fruit. I thin some off and prune off some of the small growth. The return bloom is great every year. I suppose if you leave way too much fruit, flowering might be reduced the next year. But I'd think you'd notice reduced fruit quality as well if they over bear that much.

Basically I think something is wrong culturally. O'Neal is a very early maturing variety. It has many months after harvest to set fruit buds for next year. Mine have about 5 months from harvest to dormancy. Yours should be nearly that. Just cann't see a bb failing to set fruit buds when it has that much time to get the job done. Unless something is wrong culturally.
