    Mexico - hands down. If all you have is 3 days you fly into Cancun or Cozumel in the Yucatan, rent a car, and drive a loop trip on well-signed, good highways to Mayan ruins (Tulum, Coba, Chichen Itza & Ek-Balam), swim in cenotes (Dzintzun is just one of many), explore a cave with Mayan artifacts (Balancanche), and overnight each night in a Spanish Colonial town (Valladolid). The Yucateca food is awesome. If you want a completely different Mexico weekend, there's Baja: fly in to Cabo San Lucas & have fun staying in La Paz - or charter a panga from there to snorkel with sea lions in one of the nearby islands. Or, fly to Oaxaca for a totally different cuisine experience, & tour the textile, pottery, mezcal & copper producers of the area as well as the Aztec & Mixtec ruins. In November, fly to Merida to see the migration of the monarch butterflies..Or go to Guanajuato in the Central Highlands to see a colorful Colonial town and its annual Cervantes festival (plus an outstanding regional museum, good music, & the mummy museum!)...And this is just for starters....

      Although I love the Caribbean (Jamaica in particular with 23 trips)and Italy my heart is in Australia where I have been 5 times and it is the place of my dreams!

      Me, my husband and our two young children travel to Tuscany every year. We stay in a charming hotel called Palazzo Brandano perfectly located in a hilltop town called Petroio. We use this amazing place place as a base for daily jaunts to nearby towns such as Montepulciano, Pienza, Montalcino and Siena. The vistas are breathtaking, the food in small trattorias delightful to the senses and if course the vino....I'm already dreaming about our next visit.

      I love Tuscany and have been several times but I truly love Australia the most of every place I have been. The people are great and the country is amazing. It is a very special place and I am glad it is a hard place to reach. That way it does not get overrun by tourism.

      I've never been to Tuscany and am in love with Italian food and architecture. Hawaii is also one of my favorites. I've been there three times, but would love to try a new destination, and of all of Europe, Italy is a country I haven't been to and would love to visit.

      Tucsany! My husband's father is a 'full-blood" Italian. I have always wanted to take my husband back to where his ancestors originated. His grandfather is registered at Ellis Island!

      I've never been outside of North America (US/Canada/Mexico). I voted for the Virgin Islands, but I would much prefer the Greek island of Crete. I prefer less-traveled areas and places that most people would pass over for a vacation. Rather than staying on the beach, I'd prefer a small rental or motel in the mountains in a tiny village off the beaten path. You see so many unique things when you stray away from the "tourist traps."

      Sorry Jason the Virgins are very touristy. Crete is as well for quieter look at the Turks and Caicos, Miles of beautiful snow white beaches with sand that is like cornstarch and squawks and not many people. Parrot Cay is part of the group and it has great rental homes that are slap on the beach. It is pricey but it was one of the best trips I ever had for peace and beauty. Take a look at them they are not even as hard to get to as the Virgins..you do have to take a boat from Grand Turk to get to the Island but it is a luxury cruiser. By the way you might run into Bruce Willis and another celebrity they have homes on Parrot Cay.

      Tuscany. The reason? It would take me a weekend to get to the other suggested sites. Being English,and having five weeks holiday,may I suggest a month? Try Europe. Reasonably easy to get to. Fly into,say,London. Stay a few days. Eurostar train to Paris. After that,Europe is your oyster....Amsterdam,Bruges,Copenhagen,Madrid,Rome,Prague,Vienna,Venice,Monaco,Geneva etc,etc... Bermuda may be quite close for some. They are often more British than I am.

      yes Favored my hubby hasn't been back to Italy since he was 5 years old. His grandparents as well is registered at Ellis Island. Lots of family still over there Would be great to go back

      I voted for Sydney, the poll was about a dream getaway. All the other places you have to plan to get there. The right swimsuit, clothes, other things to do besides sitting poolside. Plus, when your friends find out where you're going, they'll want to come along too. So much for relaxing. But Sydney is perfect, you can sightsee from the hot tub!!!

      @Trudy Richardson: All of these destinations are very "touristy." Crete has its tourist attractions, but if you get inland into the mountains with the tiny villages, you can get away from the "touristy" aspect and really experience the Greek culture. In addition, I absolutely love the stone architecture, but you can find that in many other places as well. I have no desire to be anywhere near where celebrities are staying; that, in itself, screams "touristy." Thanks for the info, but the Turks & Caicos sound exactly like what I'm trying to avoid :)

      Tuscany offers tremendous wine, its the birthplace of slow food and some of the world's most impressive architecture funded by the Medici. Need we say more?

      I have been to all of the destinations. Tuscany is a favorite spot. My suggest is that August is not a time to go. The area has beautiful landscapes, great wines, and a very relaxing lifestyle.

      There´s no better place to calm down and relaw the mind than the beach! Warm water, healthy food, gentle wind... and my husband with me!

      The diving is incredible! The visibility at 50 ft. is 80-100ft. Unbelievable creatures of all sizes and shapes. The colors put HD tv to shame. To top it off, the water is so warm. Never got a chill, even at 90 ft down. Wonderful place to go!!

      Sorry, the Caribbean, pariticularly BonAire, is the place I was describing. But it also would apply to Cancun, Cozumel, and Roatan.

      I'm from Barbados and I love it here so while all the other places sound fantastic to visit there is no place I would rather be than beautiful Barbados, I'm with you penelopepan!

      Talking about Crete - you will find the most remote white sand beaches and wild mountains you can think of, around 80% of the island is actually away from busy centres and many tourists.

      Failing Crete (or other Greek island; I can not be too objective about this) it has to be Caribbean for me just because of nice memories there. I would love to visit some of the other places too.
