I have never experienced a "siamese squash" (that's what I call them) until this year. I'm not sure what causes it, but it's weird.

You never mentioned what variety yellow squash you are growing or if it's straightneck or crooked neck, but I would say that if it is 6 inches long they should be ready to pick. That can depend on the variety though.

As far as having a green tinge to them, you got me. My straightnecks and crooked necks are pretty much yellow from the get go. Once again, it may depend on your variety. Of course, you can always prepare one up and sample a tasting to see if it tastes right.

Yep -- that's what they look like!

I think they are straight neck. For the life of me I can't remember and will have to look at the seed packet. Some are crook necked though! It is a confused plant :)

Twins are not that unusual, I probably get 2 0r 3 per 100 plants. Older varieties are subject to cucumber mosaic virus which causes greening. does not hurt their eating qualities much but does make them difficult to market.

Cool -- thanks! I have three "twins" on the same plant, so I was starting to wonder! And as long as green won't make anyone sick, green squash is for dinner! :)

Oh -- and silly question -- do I refrigerate the ones I picked? Or leave them out?

I like to grow yellow courgettes (zucchini), not just for the flavour but because you can SEE them. It really helps avoid those giants lurking under the leaves where you have missed picking one.
