Have you had a soil test?

If you're in the same belt of ancient beach sands that I am you probably share the potassium deficiency that was wiping out my beans and stunting everything else.

Though I prefer organic solutions when possible, a bag of 5-5-15 has worked miracles in the short term while I work on the long-term soil improvement.

are there any barns where you can get horse poops?? No matter what its mixed with, straw or wood shavings, if its been around awhile great, if not, get truckloads of it, put it somewhere where you can poke it around once in awhile or just let it sit in the area where you want to plant in a few months. No need to till it in unless you want, just plant in it, may not work, but in my limited time gardening, there is no greater equalizer than herbivore poops :) unfortunately a couple truckloads of chicken or pig poop may offend neighbors if you dont have enough of an area to keep it off the garden for a few months. Otherwise, maybe plant some cover crop, wait a few months, then cover it with poops and topsoil, and try again. I lived in PA for a few years, my tiny yard was rock hard clay, covered the bejeezus out of it with horse poops, and had the some of the best stuff I have ever eaten. I have horses, so the only gardens I have ever had, had horse poops for their only fertilizer, because im too cheap to buy fish emulsion, and all that other good stuff that really works, and they dont always do great for other reasons, bugs etc. but the stuff that grows , grows great!! You may have to wait until next year if you wanted to try a cover crop, then covering with poops, ( I really like saying poops!!) but it would be worth if it you arent getting anything now anyways

This is tough time of year in coastal Carolina, I should think. I'd focus on the great spring and fall growing seasons.....
