onion question

last year I planted some onion sets. Then we got a bumper crop of onions from our CSA and I never actually harvested my onions. They are in a bed I'm not planting this year so I just left them alone. Now they are flowering, which means that the bulbs are useless. What should I do? Just pull and compost? Leave the flowers alone and let them go to seed?

I like having a few onions that have gone to seed around the garden. They're pretty and they attract beneficial insects. I compost them after flowering.
