I'm a newbie right with you. Here is a link I've found recently that I found very helpful. The pictures are good the wording is concise. There's a list of recipes and additives that'll get us started. Just found it today and I've got my shopping list ready for tomorrow!

Your first pieces are good, nothing to laugh at, you should have seen some of my first attempts! Don't forget to take a look at the FAQ section at the top of the main forum page - some good advice there. It helped me a lot when I started.

JUST FANTASTIC!! I applaud your first efforts. Wasn't that FUN to do? Just love that faux rock one as well. I wonder if you have tried texturing any of your pieces with a stiff bristle brush? Just after it hardens nicely, go at it with a brush and see if you like that effect. Please keep tufa-ing!! You are a natural at it.

Richlyn71, The piece with the blue and green glass is really an unusual plant stand, too cool. Are you going to paint or stain any of your pieces? I use a wire brush to texture the outside of some of my pieces like Marly was talking about but I leave some smooth like you did in Pic #3. I also like to stencil and rubber stamp so I leave the sides smooth. Nice pieces, you did a great job. Billie

Thanks for all your kind words. I am just getting into this and love it. My imagination runs wild all day thinking of projects to do.....just not enough time in a day (or experience yet) as far as staining, painting and texturing, that is coming soon. I have decided to do a project that might take a little while, new pictures posted on my site (webshots). I am thinking of a big basin with a molting volcano in the middle with water bubbling out of the center and red led lights to give it a real volcano look. So far I have started on the volcano. I will start on the basin next week. The whole thing should be about 25" wide by 25" tall. Hope it works as planned.

Welcome. Your projects are very nice. Nothing to laugh at. Some of my first projects looled just like gray cowflops. I have kept them all these years and no matter how often I look at them I still see cowflops.
