Step by step on painting the leaves

My eyes are starting to cross trying to find instructions on HOW to paint leaves. So I hope this hasnÂt been repeated to many times.

What is the procedure, step by step, after you pick out the paint? Is it the darker color all over the leaf then the lighter color on top of that or do you paint the veins the dark color then paint the rest of the leaf the lighter color?????? I want it to look like the real leaf....

Please help!!

HI Donna. I have been doing leaves for a couple of years now, and find that just about anything works. I originally just did washes and fiddled with sponges, brushes etc. Then I read about getting exactly the color that you want on the leaf, then doing a wash of the rib color, and wiping off the excess. I like to to that quite a bit, as it really shows the details a lot. I have also painted the veins and ribs but that is a lot of work, and doing the wash over top takes away a lot of the time you would otherwise have to take. I will try and post some pictures in the gallery to show you.

Well, THAT was an exercise in frustration... Puppy3, if you're a member of the GardenBuddies site, maybe you could let them know that their "click here to register as a member" brings up a 404 Not Found error. And of course if you want to report a problem with the site, you have to be a member; there is NO other way given to contact them. I wonder if they've noticed nobody seems to be signing up lately?

I guess I just wasn't meant to see Laurie's concrete rhubarb leaf birdbath! :)

Donna, if you have some broken leaves or concrete pieces, you can expeiment on them with some acrylic paints ( the little bottle from craft store or wal-mart ) you can use cheap brushes, sponges, rags,pretty much anything you are comfortable with. You can wet the brush, dab in paint, the paints go a long way, better if watered down. It's kinda hard to explain, I usually use a base coat and come back and fill in with colors as I like.

ladylong, sorry about the sight not working the I thought it would. I have been a member of garden web for many years and enjoy how others have patience with others when things don't work out as planned.
Donna, Glenda BC has a great site to check out. I also have used the washes with a lot of success. Also, thank you for you patience.
