2 recent projects

Hi Y'all,

I unveiled a few recent projects today, a decorated birdbath, a carved bowl, and a Japanese lantern, all made using the same plastic molds. I find it interesting to get so many looks from the same form.

Forgive me if the pics don't work, I'm not a web guru.

Mabel, those are really nice. I especially like your lantern. The different shapes are very well unified--they make a pleasing whole. You said that you used the same molds for the shell planter as for the lantern. Were those purchased molds or "found shapes?" I really like that planter/birdbath and the celtic carved birdbath too.

    Thanks for the compliments :-)

EasterIslandGiant, the columns are made with a History Stones mold. I posted the link. I think the molds are excellent quality and easy to use. One bag or ready mix concrete will make a column, footer and capital or birdbath bowl. We've sold enough birdbaths to pay for the set and it make a great gift for gardening friends.

Deb, I have to say it again, I love your column! I recently found a bakery box that looks like the rope column footer to your column, I can hardly wait to try it. I hope to make two large columns someday soon to use in a new grape arbor.

I will post pics of the molds in the gallery. I used a square ceiling light fixture, a small trash can and a large plastic bowl. Each item is square, which I think is why they look so good together and are so versatile. Unfortunately I forgot the cling-wrap so the light fixture was a one time use mold :-(

The molds I used are from garage sales -- one of the primary reasons I GO garage-saleing is to find likely molds. Yesterday I bought a small trash can with fluted sides which I think will look great as a gazing ball pedestal.

Thanks so much for the History Stones link. I was paying a lot more for for the same items on evilBay.

Mable, nice work, especially the lantern. It's so satisfying when it's cured enough to see how it all looks together. I think I made it to 3 weeks on mine :-)
That blue bowl sure looks like a good find. I might have to start giong to yardsales again. I'd like to find one of those light fixtures like you used for the roof.

Very nice Mabel, one quick question. Does the base of your lantern have a solid "center foot" it looks like from your mold that you have arches to make it look like its standing on four legs but if you filled the mold up it would have 4 legs and a big square center leg hidden under it.
