help building a fake rock pool slide.

HEllo. I have finally built my pool and now im working on the patio. But I want to build a fake rock slide. I found a picture of what I want. But need help with ideas on how to build it. I would like it to be hollow so I could have access to the inside to put the pumps and hose for the water for the slide, and to keep pool floats. but not sure I can make it strong eneough. I dont have a hill to build it on. So I wanted to make the front out of fake boulders to. Hear you can see my pool. I want to put the slide on the far side next to the fence.

I have added the picture of the slide I want to build to my pool page.

If you could help me come op with some ideas I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Sylvia

Cannaluver, Nice looking pool and decking. I've been around quite a few structures like what you want to build and the main thing that I could tell you is that you need a HEAVY DUTY structure underneath it. This will require some good engineering to create it. You don't want it to come crashing down with someone on the slide or in the pool.

I'd recommend having the support structure designed by someone who knows what they are doing and then you'll be able to build the surround as you please. I'd also check with your insurance company too. Liability is a huge concern on something like this. If you do it yourself there is no company to fall back on to take responsibility except you. I dont mean to be a wet blanket on your idea but there is lots to consider when doing this. Good luck.

Hmmm. OK. Since I am a do it yourselfer all the way. If I haul in lots of rocks to build the foundation on would this work? I could just put the pump under a fake rock and the hose through the back in the side. Let me know your opinnion.

Sure, that sounds better doing it that way. You need that foundation and support and all will be fine. You sure have lots of hutzpah and energy to tackle a project like that. It should be fine though. Keep us posted with more pic's. Good luck.

Now that I think of it, I saw a foundation such as you want built out of used tires. They would stack a few tires in a layer then fill with concrete to hold all in place. (largest tires at the base and smaller at the top) Do another layer the same way till you have the basic shape you want/need. Then do a faux rock outside layer. It was solid so no equipment could be stored underneath but your idea for a small niche could be built into it and given a cover of faux rock.

This way, it'd be easier than hauling rock, you'd get rid of a lot of used tires and you'd probably get them free. You'd be able to build the shape you wanted easier too. One way of doing it anyway.

Hi again, Wish we could go back and edit previous posts instead of having to make new all the time.

Anyway, The tires dont need to be filled with concrete either. You could use dirt FIRMLY tamped into them. Just make sure they are very well anchored at the base. A few rods driven into the ground will do that and continue to anchor the layers as you build up. Much cheaper to use dirt than concrete. After the tire/dirt base is built up you could use a waterproof membrane to protect it. You'd need to make sure the dirt fill couldn't be washed out and cause a failure.
