After reading about Davo's lantern, it occurred to me that a lightweight one could blow away; and so could a very lightweight sphere. So I'll be using cement, sand, and peat for those. My question is about securing sections together... I'll be making a "finial" for the top of the lantern and want it attached to the lid. Those two parts will need to be made separately. How can I best do that?

On the sphere, I first thought I'd affix a heavy duty piece of wire to the armature before covering with the mixture so I could stick it in the ground, but I'm going to use the same mixture as for the lantern so it will be heavy. I finally found the perfect globe! Now I need to know how to create two halves and then join them together. Any help is greatly appreciated!
