If you aren't happy w/ your perky painting, you might want to use a rag along w/ the brush - paint on, wipe off. At least it is a technique worth trying if you are looking for something different.

One thing about painting is that if you don't like what you have done, you can just paint over the top. I remember thinking I had to have it perfect right from the start - so it was some kind of huge revelation to realize I would never run out of opportunities to do it differently.

Try painting several different colors on one leaf. Start with a base color of light green or yellow. Then "dry brush" (Cajunmist taught me about dry brushing, anyone remember her) other colors on top of the base color. Take a real leaf and try copying the colors. It just takes a little practice, really. Billie

I love that planter. There is something sculptural about it that appeals to me. I can see it better in this photo and it makes me want to try some sculpture (next summer).
My favorite of your leaves is the green one. The folds in the leaf give it a certain flair that I like to try for when I cast leaves.

I think your projects look great. I agree with the others, don't be afraid of the paint, wipe it off, sponge it, dry brush, just have fun and play with it till you get the look you like.
