Green Sour Apples

When I was very young in the 1950s we had an apple tree in our yard that produced the sourest apples I have ever tasted, even when they were ripe in the fall. I loved them, but have never been able to locate anything similar. I often will stop along unpaved roads in rural Michigan where I live to taste the fruit of various wild apple trees that seem to grow here and there. No luck yet, though I do like some of them before they ripen and are still green. I have even tried to start some from branches and from seeds..still no luck. Any ideas about getting some really sour green apples will be appreciated.
