Raspberry plant problems. Please Help!

I have purchased a total of 10 raspberry plants. 3 varieties from 2 different sources over 4 different sources. They all arrived as bare root plants. They were soaked and potted right away. There are probably 3 different soil mixtures from different sources. About 3/4 of the plants started growing but the new growth died with in a week or two. 1 of the plants has a stalk that is 3 times as big around as all the others. It is the only one that is stoll green and growing well. The others have either died back to the original cane or never started growth at all. Because of the variety, I am reasoning that it is not totally a disease issue. My thinking is that I potted them all right about the time it started getting warm. Here in Austin it went from warm to nearly 100 degrees within a couple weeks. It has stayed in the high 90's. Could it be that the roots never got a chance to develop enough to support the growth? Next year I will plant earlier. I looked at the roots and when they are scratched they are white and look alive. Are the plants still viable for next year? I have kept the roots moist but not soggy. Should I hold on to them and wait or are they done for if they are just sticks?
