Remodel - Bath vanity

Hi, I am remodeling my bathroom. Currently I have a 48" built in vanity. I love the look of a freestanding vanity or floating vanity though. My question is should I go with a 36" or 48" vanity. Currently the space is a little tight, but would a 36" be too small? I've attached pictures of the vanity I am interested in (dark) and the vanity I currently own (light). Please offer any suggestions! Also, is a freestanding vanity a pain to clean under?
