Plum question

Hello from South Dakota. I planted two plum trees in a raised bed setting in my backyard. I planted them 2 years ago and they are starting their 3rd year. I bought them from a nearby Wal-mart. One is a Satsuma and I am sorry to say I can't remember the name of the second tree, the only thing I know is that it was not a Satsuma. At the time I thought they would be good mates because they both flower early and are very cold tolerant. Both tress were about 5 ft tall, they are 7 ft. now. Well this year I was pleased that they both flowered at the same time. One tree flowered way more than the other. I have watched for the development of plums and I am disapointed to report that one tree has two plums and the other has 4. Now I am wondering if I should buy a new plum tree? Or will things improve next year as the trees mature? I can buy an Underwood Plum on sale now for only 17 dollars. I really don't have anyone around here to ask, so I turned to you guys, Please Help. I have been successful with peach and apple trees and I am trying to make my backyard more bird friendly, but 6 plums is not enough to share.
