Insulator Twinkle Lights

I know some of you GJers used these "insulators" for outdoor lighting and I got 3 last mo. at TS. I saw this idea in Country Home mag. My DH cut some 2x4 scraps & I sanded to round the edges & stained them cherry. Then purchased at Hobby Lobby label holders (scrapbk section). Added some pine greenery to cover wire of twinkle lights. This looks very "wintery" (which I am sick of!) but will use it on my porch with pussy willow branches (if & when Spring gets here)...and potted plants! Fun project! Jeanne S.

Oh...I love those! What a great use of insulators!

I have a whole box of insulators I inherited from my dad. I think I would lik to light some of them. Very nice!

    Jeanne,

Those are awesome! I guess if you get too much winter and that white stuff it does make you antsy for Spring! You know you've seen the ones me and hubs put around my pond as out "Malibu Lights" right? Here'e a picture just to jog your memory. Originally it was with the white twinkly lights. When those died out we went the landscaping wire and transformer route. IT sure helped when I was able to find the cheap plastic Malibu lights as innards in the PVC pipe directly under the insulators! Teh insulaors just sit atop of the pipes and I can take off to change out a bulb whenever they burn out. I've got them on a timer--on at dusk--off my 11pm. It sure makes it great for the pond.

    Love, Jules

These are great! At first glance, I thought the insulators were sitting on bricks. Then I read (I always look first) that those were blocks of wood. You did a good job on the wood too.

Love it...Did you just run the lights under or some other way... I was telling DH sat. about people doing that after see them(insulators) at a shop we were at....They look wonderful...

These are so pretty. Good idea.

    Thanks, everyone!

Leveta...I just used a string of 20 lights and just pushed 6 of them up in glass, left out 1, pushed up in next glass, etc. and then just used the pine greenery to cover the wire & couple lights that showed. Worked good. These are on my buffet but would look cool on a wood shelf (if you could hide the cord some way).

Marlene...yeah, I love the aqua colored better...the magazine used clear insulators.

Jules ... I remember your pond and LOVE the insulator lights! Thanks for a re-look! Jeanne S.

Awesome idea, Jeanne S.! They look very pretty. And I'm with ya, I'm so sick of this white stuff and cold weather! At least I didn't get hit with the weird foot of snow they got about 7 miles away from me. We got less than an inch of snow and near Lake Michigan they got a foot or more! Go figure! Better them than me (sorry toomuchglass!).

desertrat, you pool looks so pretty and warm! Can I come to see it up close and personal? lol! I could use a bit of desert right now.

Lovely idea, the cherry looks so warm & inviting, aqua are my favorites also. Jules the lights look good around your pond too!! Thanks for sharing! Jan

Me,too Vickie, I thought they were bricks! They're just beautiful, like the birdhouse is! The blue glass makes such a pretty glow at night. I used some dusk to dawn lights, and replaced the clear plastic covers with insulators, and it's so pretty. I get compliments on it all the time.
I hope you take pics of different seasons decor on them and show us!

Love this idea! And you are just too clever for me with that 'Twinkle, Twinkle' bit. I never would have thought of that.

I like these, aren't you clever!
    Adding to my must-do list.......

What a great idea! Finally, something even I can do with my insulators. Thanks for telling us how it's done and for the excellent pictures.

Great idea ! I'm sure I'll be using this idea to make a few myself.I have a lot of them that I got from my mom.I think they'd look good at Christmas in the house, especially if you have country decor.

    Thanks for sharing :)

What a great idea! I'll have to remember this for Christmas next year!

Great idea !! They look awesome :)

Oh, I like the twinkle light idea. I have been using the little battery operated tealights under mine around the house. ~Anj

I got a couple isulators today that are grayish in color. Looking at yours again are yours bigger then reg. ones? And do they get hot without any holes for air? Thank You...

leveta...I just measured them ... about 4" high at the top of the dome & about 3-l/2" dia. I don't know if the lights will get too hot or not...cause I haven't used them very long. I'm going to try to use them on the porch with some pussy willow branches...when it buds out (sometime soon, I think!)

anjabee...good idea of battery tealights. Have you seen the ones they sell now that are "remote control!" LOL! Then you wouldn't have to mess up everything picking up the insulators, working around the greenery, etc. etc. Jeanne S.

jeannespins thank you...Could I ask one more ??. From the reply above, do you just set them on the wood or do you use something to attach it to the wood??

leveta ... I just sat them on the wood squares. Have fun with yours! Jeanne S.
