Multi-Grafts Breaking

I was just wondering if any one else has had a problem with multi-grafted fruit trees breaking at the graft.

I've got a 4 apple tree, and the entire Fuji graft broke off this year, right at the graft.

I'm wondering if the problem is the multi-graft, or if the problem is a weak root stock.

I don't know what rootstock, and I wish I did, so I could avoid it. This is my only tree that has to be staked, and it is absolutely limp. The trunk is staked, the branches are staked, and still it droops and leans.

The section of the tree that broke off, broke between a couple of trunk supports and the support on that main branch. Apples have been thinned a couple of times. There was no reason for the branch to break off.

Unfortunately, that branch was my son's favorite apple, so now it is lost, plus another 4-5 years to grow another Fuji.
