I bet it sounds wonderful.. LIke the colors of the beads.

I love it. I have been wanting to make one, but havent found the right top piece yet. I think I want an old cookie cutter as the top. The strainer is a great idea. Did you string the beads right thru the little holes? IT came out super.

ty yall for the compliments..yes "bright" it has a lovely sound to it! yes "imjustsam" i strung the beads on the twine then strung the twine thru the holes in the strainer and tied them off..a cookie cutter would be adorable i think!..just be careful the handles of the silverware get hot while drilling! "susiesunshine" the beads where something i had laying around for several years and never used..i love earthtone colors!

I like this too...and I just remembered my grandsons have loads of beads, and fishing line....I'm going to have to try my hand at making one of these someday soon...I bet they sound really pretty..

Me too. I'm really gonna have to make one of these someday...soon. My brother used to make them a lot but he always pounded the silverware out flat on an anvil. I'm not sure which way I like best.

Tooooooo cooooooooool! I love it! I love the cool top too! I have a box of odds and ends of silverware in the garage, saving them for a windchime. You've inspired me to go for it finally! Very, very, very, very nice! Thanks for sharing your beautiful creation! Bear Hugs! Kirk

I love working with beads in windchimes!
What kind of bit and drill do you use to drill out the silverware?
    Great job.

Just thought I would post this chime with the beads.

I've made these too. I pound the silverware out flat, and silverplate gives the best sound. The first one I made I strung the beads on fishing line... big mistake. It will dry out and break. Now I use tiger tail beading wire. Seems to be holding up very well.

... the pic of my first chime is still here, in the inspiration album, under Metal, on the bottom of the first page.

I use a metal drill bit to drill and yes, the handles get hot hot hot!

thank you all for the compliments! i used stainless steel wish i had real silverware!..ok this means yall have to get yours made and share pics!! i used a drill bit made for metal also..just dont put heavy presure on the drill or the bit will break..steady firm pressure works best (i found this out after breaking 2 bits lol).. a drill that runs of of power not battery is what i used..u have me thinking of restringing on wire butterbeanbaby..dont want it to fall apart! texasfern did u make that windchime?..its pretty!! ok yall get to drillin and stringin!

OOOOoooo what a cute idea with the strainer as the top! I have a stash of old pieces of silverware from DH's mom. I wonder if he would let me use them for this kind of project? Hmmmm, we'll have to see.

Thanks for the info Kat. Got grandkids for the weekend and this may be a good project. I think I have a drill bit that will work.
I did make that windchime when I was doing ceramics.
    Heres a few more pics.

Kathy, your wind chime is very, very pretty. The topper was a clever idea, (no drilling!) I like the way you left the flatware natural, it has an antique quality about it that is very appealing, but I will have to try flattening it out next time, (thx, butterbeanbaby)just for something different and to see if it sounds better. I made one several years ago and the fishing line just started breaking this last year. I recently got some old flatware and have wanted to re-string my old one and make another one for our veggie garden. So all the info has been so helpful.
t-fern, all I gotta say is " yeehaw, girl"!!Those are beautiful, great talent and beautiful colors!Love the sunflowers and sand dollars! blessings-sherri

lacensuch..it never hurts to ask..your dh may just say yes!..texasfern your chimes r so pretty..makes me want to get out the clay my sis gave me..she has a kiln and paints...the clay is dry so will have to moisten it up before i can use it..sherri its hard to see on my pic but i flatened out a couple of the spoons and they have a different sound then the ones i didnt flatten..more of a higher pitch "ting"..if that is the way to describe it lol.

Kathy,That is what I was wondering, if it makes a difference in the sound, THX!!!! Now that I've gone back and looked, I see some of them are flattened out. Thx for the info, yours is really, really pretty!!

    Love the windchimes!
Actually I think I like the silverware ones NOT
    flattened....

your welcome sherri! nonacook..i agree..i think flatening them takes away from the "look"..if i ever do another ill leave them as is.. i do like the look of the tines being curled on the forks.
