When rich red what I read.

Its hard to tell, Kazake doesn't necessarily get super red. They are usually not ripe until pretty close to the first hard freeze so just leave them alone until October before sampling. With only two fruits I would just wait until a hard freeze is about to hit.

Thanks, I will try to keep it. One was already destroyed by groundhog. So I tempted to just pick it before something else gets it. I really want to taste it since it was the first year of fruiting.
Scott, if I am not mistaking you had Kazake too. If so, did it survive last winter?

I have two Kazake. One lost a lot of branches but mostly came through OK. The other died back to the ground. They overwintered fine but an early spring freeze nipped all the buds.

I have two, one that fruited was inside the house and another I transplanted into the ground last fall. I lost couple branches from the harsh winter but it is still growing. I had Entek Sabe Savahe (hope I spelled this right) in the ground and that one daied.
