I think of it more like a bermuda sod field that has been harvested, it may look pretty bare, but it will come back.

IMO not without a serious upgrade in the software. The forum is antiquated and nneds a serious over haul.

    Replaced by what?

Yeah, I'm with Paul. I still like the forum, but now frequent two forums.

Just like any other forum, new folks come in all the time. Particularly on a forum like this one, which is nominally dedicated to gardeners, but has both "tool" and "lawn" folks well represented also - I mean, there are a lot of gardeners out there who will look for lawn advice here as a matter of reflex.

Sure, we lost a lot of good folks recently, but I am seeing this as an opportunity for getting some new blood involved. As great as some of the advice has been lately, the conversations can tend to stale when personalities start to get involved. And whether or not that was happening too much recently, it certainly isn't now!

So glad you are still here Philes, at least part-time, particularly since you are one of those stout bermuda roots, impossible to kill, true, and on an almost evangelistic mission.

    ;-)

Hope that makes sense, cheers all,
    Paul

I have started lurking over at the other site, and it seems to be pretty active and have a good group over there (including many of the folks who used to be here). My only real problem with that site is that what we have in one forum here is split into about 12 forums there (6 for cool season grass and 6 for warm season grass). I can see this might be helpful, but to me it is more of a nuisance navigating so many different forums. I will still probably hang out in both places.

    "Replaced by what?"

I haven't been very active here lately, so I need to ask the same question...

Another site was created earlier this year by some folks who became dissatisfied with the Scotts board. Then last month, a very helpful longtime member here was banned for reasons I'm still not clear about. Anyway, that poster became active on the new site, and many folks who used to post here followed.

I would tell you the name of the new site, but apparently gardenweb's software has been configured to prevent even mentioning it!

Thanks for the explanation, Paul. I had no idea that this was a Scott's board! In any case, I have learned a lot of good things from the posters here. My lawn is definitely better because of you all.

I'm sorry, I wasn't clear, as far as I know gardenweb has nothing to do with Scotts. But Scotts does run another lawncare board, which went through some questionable "upgrades" over the winter, causing a lot of frustration. If you go to Scotts' site, and try really really hard, you may be able to find it. It's as if they are deliberately hiding their own forum, bizarre. Used to be much easier to get to.

    l@wnsm@rts dot com

Replace "@" with "a" and you will have the other site's name.

Nice, more spam. Mods/admin - ban these jackasses!

    Hey Buzzsaw,

I'm reluctant to bump this thread again, but I didn't think Tak was spamming, just providing some information for those who missed the last few weeks. I mean, I think GW has made some really boneheaded decisions recently, starting with the banning of that member, then deleting some lengthy threads discussing that decision, and finally, apparently, banning the mere utterance of the name of that new site.

I didn't like the spamming either, but I think it is over now. At least it seems to be as a matter of policy over there, and frankly I think they have handled that very well, and in a way that should shame whoever was doing it into just cutting it out.

Except for that, none of these things sit well with me, but I think folks here who did not see these things happen in real time, and now can't even search for them, and who ask "what happened," deserve to know what happened, and where many of the previous posters here went. And I think that was all Tak had in mind.

Hoping that that makes sense, and also hoping I don't get banned for this (!),
    Best,
    Paul

Egad, I did not know that I had waded into a minefield. Thank you, Paul and Tak, for explaining that which was not obvious to me.
