You can seat 6 people at a rectangular table that is 36 x 72, or at a round table that has a 54" diameter. You need to allow 3 feet on either side of the rectangular table for traffic, and the same 3 feet all around the round table. You need to measure to determine which one will fit your space better.

I would hands down recommend a round table over a rectangular table for a small space. Round tables allow for ease of circulation. You can sneak an extra chair or two in for dinner parties. Adding a leaf to a round table creates an oval shape which allows you guests to circulate easier around the table and the room. Good luck with your project!

I agree the round give you more flexibility and encourages a good flow
