What reasons did your kitchen designer give?

Staining and chipping. I am renovating the main house of an old horse farm and feel like marble is the only way to go for the look I want. I'm not afraid of having a lived in look.

Marble can stain. But if you really love the look, see if you can use it mixed in with other materials. For example, use marble on the main countertops, but light grey quartz, tiles, or a simple solid surface on the island; or vice versa. A good designer will help you combine what you love with the functionality that you need.

I think Marble has fallen out of style as of recently. In my opinion it has been overused and I personally only care for it in bathrooms because it is so easy to stain.

We tend to recommend Soapstone or honed granite over marble. And for those who want a lighter airier look we recommend a quartz. What is the look you are trying to achieve with marble?

Marble will always be in style in kitchens. You are aware of the staining and wear issues so get what you want and enjoy! And no, they're not that hard to maintain. Seal as recommended. Good luck.

As long as you are an informed consumer on the downside, you should get what you want. Many people love and want the look of a used space. There is one granite however that we have started to see locally that gives some of the same look - White Vermont. It is gorgeous and may be a good substitute. Have fun and get what you want. I would suggest looking for another option to compare the marble to. There are some really nice light colored granites. I have granite countertops (dark) and love them. Very durable. It's a hard decision because you may never truly love your new kitchen without marble. But then, you may find a nice granite that you'll love just as much. Has your kitchen designer shown you any alternatives?
